History

1902 Sister Eleanor Irving, O.S.B., principal of Holy Angels Grade School, opened a ninth grade school for 25 students, both boys and girls.
1904 Sister Basilia Cosgrone, O.S.B., became the first principal of the newly established Cathedral High School, a position she held for fifteen years.
1914 On May 1, ground was broken for the new Cathedral High School.
1922 Cathedral High School was accredited by the University of Minnesota.
1925 Cathedral High School received accreditation from the North Central Association. The name "Crusader" was adopted for Cathedral students and teams.
1932 The Girls' Drum and Bugle Corp was organized by Sister John Clement, O.S.B.
1934 Blue and gold were adopted as the Cathedral High School colors.
1938 On June 30th, cornerstone was laid for a new building, presently called the Center Building, which would provide for fifteen classrooms, laboratories, a library and cafeteria.
1939 On December 8th, a gymnasium was dedicated by Rev. Joseph F. Bush. This included telescopic bleachers which seated 1,000 people. Music classrooms were constructed below the gymnasium.
1945 On April 6th, Cathedral High School was incorporated. The Board of Directors included: Bishop of Diocese, Coadjutor Bishop, Vicar General, pastors of parishes of St. Cloud, Waite Park, Sauk Rapids and the superintendent of Cathedral High School.
1947 The North Building was purchased by Cathedral High School from Holy Angels parish.
1958 In January, the South Building was completed. This building included a new cafeteria, library, store, two large group rooms, home economics department, office space and 18 additional classrooms.
1964 Cathedral High School reached its peak enrollment with 1,621 students.
1967 The North Gymnasium was completed including a modern gym floor, seating capacity of 3,500, locker room, coaches' offices and one classroom
1971 John XXIII Middle School was established under the direction of Sr. Diane Theisen, O.S.B. The school began as a joint effort between the following parishes: Sacred Heart, St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Augustines, St. Joseph Waite Park and Holy Spirit. These parishes were becoming concerned about the educational needs of 7th and 8th graders and felt that by consolidating these grades into one school it would provide more specialized instruction in the various curricular areas.
1982 A new governing board was established which consisted of 12 board members (one person from each of the corporate parishes).
1985 Cathedral High School and John XXIII Middle School became one school with one administration.
1989 The North Building was razed.
1995 Holy Angels Church was transformed into the Holy Angel's Performing Arts Center.
