Welcome to Faith Formation at Cathedral High School/John XXIII Middle School. Our mission is an integrated ministry, embracing the development of faith, the building of community and the learning of service. With a balance of cognitive and affective learning, these areas invite students to a deepened awareness of their Catholic heritage, a call to personal holiness, and the challenge to build the Kingdom of justice and peace.
Worship Liturgy
Liturgy is celebrated weekly at a 7:30 mass in the school's chapel. In addition, the sacrament of reconciliation is available to staff and students the final Friday of each month. All-school liturgies are celebrated monthly in the No. Gym or at the Cathedral of St. Mary. Campus Ministers plan and coordinate the liturgies under the direction of the staff Campus Minister. Emphasis is placed on the full and active participation of all students and the empowerment of all grade levels to assist in various liturgical roles.
Outreach Ministry
Campus Ministers collaborate with staff to oversee all aspects of school-wide service activities and charitable drives. Major drives take place annually during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter seasons. Campus Ministers especially seek to promote an ethic of caring and giving at CHSJ23 and relate the teachings of Jesus and the Church to the struggle for justice.
Retreats
An annual grade-level retreat is conducted away from school facilities each year for students in grades 7-12. This retreat is planned and implemented by Campus Ministry in collaboration with grade-level teachers and staff. A deeply relational ministry that is at once personal and inclusive is the primary tool of Campus Ministers in modeling the Christian life and teaching Christian values at each retreat.
