Registration Information
All full-time students at Cathedral High School/John XXIII must take at least six and one-half credits per year. Students are required to take a minimum of 3 1/4 credits per semester. No student will be allowed to have more than two open periods per day.
Each year certain courses are required. Others, called electives, may be selected from a variety of choices. A credit is earned for each full year course and a 1/2 credit is earned for a semester course.
Over the four years of high school a student must earn 26 1/2 credits in the following courses:
- 2 credits in World Language
- 3 1/2 credits in Religion
- 1/2 credit Service Learning
- 4 credits in English
- 3 credits in Social Studies
- 3 credits in Mathematics
- 3 credits in Science
- 1/4 credit in Keyboarding I or competency
- 1/2 credit in Computer Software
- 1 credit in Physical Education
- 1/2 credit in Health
Balance of credits in elective courses to acquire 26 1/2 credits total
Students enrolling in music (band, orchestra or concert choir) may earn no more than 4 music credits toward the 26 1/2 credits required for graduation. Juniors enrolled as aides, may be an aide for one semester (up to 1/2 credit for the semester). Seniors may be an aide for one semester (up to 1/2 credit with the exception of elementary teaching assistants which is one credit). Elementary teaching assistant does count as an aide experience.
